This gate, in the intersection of South Temple and State st., was erected in 1859 it once marked the entrance for Brigham Young's homestead. The gate was topped with a giant eagle which has now been replaced bya 6,000-pound metal eagle with a 20-foot wingspan. The old wooden eagle is on display at the Pioneer Memorial Museum.
